So the nokia 3310 has been my minimalist dumb brick (whatever you want to call it) phone for the last couple of years. hopefully i can keep this streak up. 2 years without a smartphone: in 2019 i bought one again, and it was a version with 8gb. due to its low memory, it was forcing me to be conscious and prioritize what files and apps i had in there. Like many of you, i've come to the decision that the drawbacks of an omnipresent internet device in my pocket far outweigh the benefits. after years of trying to curtail my smartphone use through tricks, habits, and self discipline, i've come to the conclusion that willpower is a limited resource and that the best thing to do is to get rid of it completely. I've had a smartphone for about 2 weeks now, and i agree with a lot of what you've said. i have. the effort inconvenience associated with having to put more work into doing specific tasks with a dumb phone is less than the constant effort associated with having to 'moderate' my usage of a device that's designed to be addictive. Living on the road can get lonely. i have so much fun living in my subaru, and that's why i'm still doing it after a couple of years. i love meeting up with friends from different periods of my life, but there's still a lot of alone time. as an extrovert, i struggle with loneliness, and i've heard even introverts do, too.
